About us

The Southern Counties Materials Minerals and Mining Society (SCMMMS) was formerly known as the West Surrey Materials Society (WSMS). The refreshed SCMMMS now covers a wider catchment area within the SE region and is managed by an enthusiastic, diverse, and inclusive committee with representation from the national metrology institute, industry and academia. The series of monthly events are focused on advanced materials characterisation and cover topics such as measurement techniques, application areas, reference materials, and best practice guidance. The events are CPD approved by IOM3 and targeted towards students, early career researchers, and technicians. The 2021 programme has been successful with the first online event in May attracting over 190 participants worldwide. Capitalising on online events has also enabled a global reach for these events for both speakers and participants, providing excellent international networking opportunities
